Academic support

Individual support

Holders of doctoral scholarships are supported by an adviser in the Studienstiftung’s office and a personal tutor at their home university, who follow their academic and personal development and offer guidance on issues relating to their scholarship and doctoral research. Through a comprehensive programme of events throughout the year, the Studienstiftung also encourages interaction and exchange amongst its scholars.

Academic programme for doctoral students

All doctoral scholars are members of one of three doctoral forums (culture, society, nature), which meet regularly to discuss questions relating to scholars’ research, the PhD procedure and wider academic questions. The forums offer an opportunity to network with other doctoral students and with advisers from the Studienstiftung’s office. Lectures from established academics and workshops on academic and professional development also contribute to a culture of exchange and dialogue. The Studienstiftung’s doctoral programme is augmented further by competence workshops and the annual "Doctoral meetings", which are held in locations across Europe chosen according to the meeting’s thematic focus.

The Studienstiftung's academic programme

In addition to the programme on offer for doctoral students, scholars pursuing a Ph.D. have access to the complete range of academic programmes offered by the Studienstiftung. These include summer academies, short conferences and seminars on professional development and career orientation. In addition, scholarship holders can apply for funding and support for self-organised events; the Studienstiftung’s alumni network also offers a wide range of activities and mentoring programmes. Doctoral candidates are invited to contribute to the Studienstiftung's academic programme by hosting their own research seminars.
