The majority of scholars are admitted to the Studienstiftung after completing the examinations qualifying them to enter higher education. To this end, the Studienstiftung writes to the principals of all schools at which these examinations are taken and requests them to nominate their highest achieving graduates for support. Apart from excellent marks, a wide range of interests, a cosmopolitan attitude and willingness to take responsibility are the main criteria for nomination.
Once the school has made a recommendation, the nominated graduates receive our application forms and are asked to apply for admission to the Studienstiftung: During their first year of study, they are invited to an admissions seminar in the vicinity of the place where they are studying. This is where they have an opportunity to use individual interviews and group discussions to impress the members of an independent commission with their ability to achieve, their motivation and their entire personality.
The admissions seminars usually take place during the winter semester. Each year, the Studienstiftung holds more than 100 selection seminars for first-year students in the whole of Germany to which about 5,000 applicants are invited. [ Details in German ]
