On 18 August 1986, former scholars, friends and staff of the German National Academic Foundation established a non-profit, tax-advantaged foundation. It was given the name Theodor Pfizer Foundation for the Promotion of the Studienstiftung in grateful recognition of Professor Dr. h.c. Theodor Pfizer, the Studienstiftung’s longtime Chairman and Honorary Chairman, whose commitment for the Studienstiftung spanned more than 60 years going back to 1925.
The objective of the Theodor Pfizer Foundation is to build up an endowment fund to support the Studienstiftung. At the time, the immediate goal was a sum of DM 3 million. Today, this goal has long since been surpassed. Approx. 5,000 donors have ensured that the endowment fund has reached a sum of approx. € 7.1 million and is still growing. Independent of political change, the Theodor Pfizer Foundation enables the Studienstiftung to offer their scholars independent higher education. Studying abroad and comprehensive vocational preparation are just as much a part of this as the Studienstiftung’s summer academies and the promotion of unusual research proposals.
The Theodor Pfizer Foundation gives former scholars, friends and sponsors of the German National Academic Foundation the opportunity to support its work on a enduring basis. The capital is invested in a fund with the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany. Their experts ensure that it is invested as profitably as possible. The dividends on the fund are distributed to the Studienstiftung. One third of the dividends are reinvested in the fund to maintain the value permanently. In this way, the Studienstiftung gains further independence and security for the future. Donations to the Theodor Pfizer Foundation are tax-deductible under German legislation.
