The members of the Board of Trustees are representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (three votes) and four representatives of the governments of the Federal States. In addition, the major German science organisations have one representative each, notably the German Research Foundation, the Max Planck Society, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German Rectors’ Conference and the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany.
The other members comprise up to ten leading figures from academia, art, schooling, politics, administration or business who are not representatives of organisations – preferably including one member of the selection committee, one tutor and one former Studienstiftung scholar.
The Board of Trustees elects the Board, decides on the Chair (President), the Vice-Chair and the Treasurer. It controls and ratifies the Board’s decisions, particularly with respect to programmes, to issues pertaining to the Studienstiftung’s cooperation with other foundations and companies, and to the budget.
