Every year, more than 1,600 women and men from academia, schools and business volunteer to participate in seminars to choose the most promising individuals amongst more than 9,000 participants. The members of the commissions are closely affiliated to the Studienstiftung, either because they themselves were scholars or because of joint study programmes.
The main incentive for the voluntary commissioners is the altruistic motive of social responsibility and genuine interest in these young, gifted and motivated people and, in many cases, to contribute to the work of the Studienstiftung in return for the sponsorship they had received as scholars.
The careful choice of commissioners ensures that the commissions boast a well balanced mixture of age, gender, professional and academic background. The commissions are supported and guided by permanent staff from the Studienstiftung.
