Central office

Since 1995, the Central Office has been headed by Secretary General Dr. Gerhard Teufel. His deputy is Dr. Sibylle Kalmbach. The Central Office is divided into six teams. In the fields of admission, programme design, and special projects, staff from various teams work together. 100 permanent staff (of whom more than a third belong to the academic management) are flanked by more than 2,500 volunteers.

The Central Office in Bonn is the headquarters. In 2002, it moved to a new building in Bonn’s science quarter together with the German Rectors’ Conference. Furthermore, in 2002, another office was opened in the centre of Berlin which also houses the “Studienkolleg Berlin” (Berlin Studies Centre).

All the staff are directly involved in the scholars’ welfare. Each member of the academic staff is responsible for various institutions of higher education and applied science. They get to know “their” scholars during consultations and local scholars’ meetings. This lively exchange, lasting many years, is the very heart of our individualised support: listening critically and digging beneath the surface, opening up new perspectives and encouraging unusual ways of proceeding. The academic staff benefit, above all, from close cooperation with the tutors who are in close exchange with their scholars.
