Since 1995, the Studienstiftung has also supported students at German universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen). Once a year, the Studienstiftung contacts the rectors or presidents and the examation boards of all these universities in Germany, requesting them to nominate excellent students for sponsorship. The professors or senior lecturers at Fachhochschulen are also eligible to nominate individual students whose outstanding achievements and aptitude for a subject have caught their attention during seminars, lectures or examinations, to be promoted by the Studienstiftung. As well as being excellent at their subject, the candidates should have distinguished themselves by the intensity of their extracurricular interests and activities.
The applicants are invited to a special selection seminar for students at universities of applied sciences, at which they have the opportunity to demonstrate their academic and extracurricular qualities to an independent commission during two individual interviews, a short lecture and a group discussion. Every year, about 1,200 students at universities of applied sciences are nominated for sponsorship by the Studienstiftung. Roughly 18 selection seminars are held for the applicants throughout Germany.
The Studienstiftung offers a specially designed admissions process to students of Design and Film at Universities of Applied Sciences.[ Details in German ]
