PhD supervisors
The Studienstiftung promotes junior researchers. Apart from more than 10,000 students it thus also sponsors about 950 PhD students. There is an extra sponsorship programme as well as a special admissions process for PhD fellowships.
Any member of the academic staff at universities is eligible to nominate excellent and exceptionally motivated PhD students they are supervising for sponsorship by the Studienstiftung. Doctoral theses sponsored by the Studienstiftung should hold the promise of making a significant contribution to science and scholarship. Candidates are not required to have been supported by the Studienstiftung at an earlier stage.
The first round in the two-stage admissions process involves nomination by the supervisor of the dissertation. Nominations may be made at any time. The interviews in the second round take place throughout the year. [ Details in German ]
