The Carlo Schmid Programme, initiated in 2001, offers interested, highly-qualified students and postgraduates the opportunity to get insight into the workings of an international administration. The programme, named after one of the founding fathers of the German Basic Law, the international law expert, Prof. Dr. Carlo Schmid, is part of a broadly-based initiative to improve German representation in international organisations.
Applicants may either apply on their own initiative for a suitable internship, which is then sponsored by a scholarship, or apply for one of the numerous work placements offered by the programme. Programme participants receive a monthly subsistence and block grant for travel expenses. In addition to financial support, a flanking programme of summer seminars and meetings abroad is offered.
The Carlo Schmid Programme is run in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Robert Bosch Foundation. It receives additional support from the Federal Foreign Office and the Tönissteiner Kreis (Association for International Dialogue in Science, Economics and Humanities). [ Details in German ]
